How to Choose a Club
So you’ve decided to make health and fitness a priority in your life. Now it’s time to choose a health club.
The most important thing to remember is that your health club should work for you. Choose a club that will help you attain your goals in a fun and engaging way. If you don’t like running on a treadmill, consider a club with group exercise classes, or a basketball, tennis, or racquetball league. These are great ways to get a workout while interacting socially with other club members. Working out can be harder some days than others, and having a team or workout partner is a good motivator.
Investing in Good Health
These days, there is a gym for everyone’s price range. When deciding which is right for you, remember that a gym membership is an investment. When investing in your health, you should make a choice based on how much you expect to get out of the gym.
If you are planning to use a gym for a quick workout on the treadmill during your lunch break, you may not need all the bells and whistles that come along with expensive gym memberships. On the other hand, if you are looking to participate in group classes, personal training sessions, and social sports leagues, a larger gym may be right for you.
Narrow your selection by figuring out what you want to get out of your gym and then find a membership fee that you can live with.
Try it Before You Buy It
Once you’ve put together a list of possible suitors, it’s time to pay them a visit. It’s a good idea to call the club and find out what time their sales or membership office is open. Also, some clubs offer guest passes or trial memberships at little to no cost. At the least, you should take a tour of the club. Ideally you would like to see the club at the time of day when you plan to use it.
Once you’ve visited the clubs, don’t be afraid to go back to them if you have any further questions. Remember that these clubs want your business and you need to feel confident in the service they are offering before you make the decision to join.
Signing on the Dotted Line
Before you enter into any agreement with a health club, make sure you know the terms you are agreeing to. Don’t sign up for a lifetime membership, which is illegal in most states. Know when your membership agreement expires and what the renewing/cancellation processes are. Don’t let a salesperson push you into agreeing to terms that don’t work for you.
