Study: Fitness is Critical to Career Success
The vast majority of executives say that physical fitness is critical to career success, according to a recent study conducted by TheLadders.com.
When asked to describe their perceptions of physical fitness in the workplace, 75% of survey respondents said good physical fitness is "critical for career success at the executive level." When asked about obesity, another 75% of executives said that being overweight is a "serious career impediment."
Should companies get involved with the physical fitness of their employees? Seventy-three percent of those surveyed said yes, suggesting that employers should provide on-site health clubs or subsidize gym memberships.
The Workforce Health Improvement Program (WHIP) Act would incentivize employers to offer fitness benefits to workers by allowing employers to deduct the cost of health club memberships for their employees. Use the link below to urge your Members of Congress to pass this important measure!

Ontario Official Proposes Fitness Tax Breaks
Ontario's health promotion minister plans public hearings in January on using tax breaks to encourage physical fitness, the Canadian Press reports. Jim Watson says he likes the idea of "using a carrot instead of a stick'' to encourage people to join health clubs, ride bicycles or buy other fitness equipment.
Watson will travel to 10 Ontario cities in January to get feedback on ideas such as eliminating the provincial sales tax on gym memberships and bicycle helmets.
Watson says his view is "that anything the government can do to encourage more people to become fit, the better.''
Premier Dalton McGuinty says Ontario can't afford the ideas Watson will be looking into because the province is running a deficit.
